This morning radio presenter Jim Naughtie mispronounced the culture secretary Jeremy Hunt’s name and as a result said ‘Cunt’ live on air. Predictably this has caused an uproar and it’s reminded me of an amazing George Carlin video I watched a while ago. His routine was about the words you can’t say on TV. According to him, these are:

“Shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, tits.”

I’m fascinated by the meaning, impact and censorship of swearing, which is hardly surprising because I swear uncontrollably hundreds of times a day.
