Yesterday we completed the third of our seven-week UK tour with a performance at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich. The space was beautiful, the audience warm, and the show went well.

I’ve never toured with this intensity before though. There are lots of good things about it – we’ve visited lots of interesting places in our incredible new tour bus, we’ve met loads of lovely people, and hanging out with the team on the road has been fun.…

Yesterday we revealed our brilliant new Touretteshero van. Over a million people have already viewed the video showing my reaction the first time I saw it.

Until I watched this video I had no idea what the van had looked like before amazing van-moder Bruce and his team got their hands on it.…

Back in February I gave a talk at 5×15 in Bristol, an event that brought together an eclectic mix of speakers. It was a fascinating evening and it got me thinking about loads of new ideas. The following day we received an email from someone who’d been at the event asking whether we might need a new set of wheels.…

I’ve just been to the toilet.

To be able to do this safely I need a number of aids. Some of these are permanent and stay in the bathroom, like the grab rail and the emergency alarm. Others are things I need to replace regularly – for example the kneepads that protect me when I move onto the floor to pull up my knickers – or the leggings I wear so I don’t have to worry about fastenings – or the panty liners to help when I don’t make it to the toilet in time.…

We’ve been in Canterbury, Kent, for the last couple of days and despite Chopin being very under the weather we’ve had two great performances of Backstage in Biscuit Land at the Marlowe Theatre, both to full houses.

I’ve not been to Canterbury before although I feel very close to the place – it’s where my parents went to college, met, fell in love and lived for a while before moving to London and having me.…

A week ago yesterday we celebrated six years of Touretteshero with a party at Battersea Arts Centre. There we had a tic drawing area where guests could choose phrases I’ve ticced and illustrate them. Yesterday we started the UK tour of our stage show Backstage In Biscuit Land at the Nottingham Playhouse, and we’re back there this afternoon for a matinee. After that we’re heading off to Hull.

The touring team includes me and Chopin, Leftwing Idiot, our producer Jolie, and Finn, our driver.…

We’re off! Our tour’s kicked off with a sell-out show in Nottingham.

Five years ago Leftwing Idiot sent an email with the subject line: ‘We Can Be Heroes’. It read:

You are on this list because you have expressed an interest in developing and shaping Touretteshero to create something entirely positive and funny for people with and without Tourettes Syndrome… Please be in touch with each other as little or as often as is necessary to build a phenomenon.”…

On the 19th March 2014, I did something that was both terrifying and thrilling – I registered a show for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. And I had no idea of the incredible adventures that were to come. What I did know was that it felt important to share, at one of the busiest performing arts festivals in the world, my experiences of Tourettes, and of the difficulties I’d had accessing theatre.…
