Laura, who’s just passed her driving test, picked me up from the lair this evening and drove us to her house for dinner. Her Sat Nav wasn’t speaking its directions properly, so she said, “You’ll have to do it.” This was brave of her because although I’m a good map-reader, I have a real problem communicating directions intelligibly, something I’ve mentioned before.

But Laura knows me well enough to distinguish between real and ticced instructions. She described me as a good co-pilot and even said she felt more confident and calm with me in the car – which is not something I’d have expected.
