We Need to Talk About Biscuits
Talking about biscuits isn’t something I usually need to make time for – I do it all day, every day. The word “Biscuit” arrived as a frequent tic almost two years ago and my life’s been full of them ever since. You’ll find biscuity posts here, here, and here – in fact this blog’s full of them.
I’ve become inextricably linked with these humble treats and people who know me say they can’t hear anything about biscuits without thinking of me. One friend told me that during a recent seminar the tutor had asked what anybody knew about Tourettes and someone had immediately said, “Biscuit.” The idea that biscuits would become as synonymous with Tourettes as the myth that it’s all about swearing makes me smile.
During the past year I’ve done lots of radio and TV interviews about Tourettes and I’m relieved I did them during the ‘Biscuit’ era not during my, “I’m a baby” phase. ‘Biscuit Woman’ is one thing, but I’m not sure how I’d feel about being known as ‘Baby Lady’ or ‘Lady Baby’ for that matter.
In exactly one week my book, Welcome To Biscuit Land – A Year in the Life of Touretteshero will be published. In it I share the ups and downs of my life with Tourettes and I’m hoping it’ll open up the creativity and humour of the condition to a whole new audience.
Like my life, the book contains many surreal exchanges, lots of spontaneous support, a few tough decisions and sad times, loads of laughter, silliness and friendship – and of course plenty of biscuits. With a week to go, I’m looking forward to opening up the gates and welcoming everyone to Biscuit Land.

I came across your story today, and I wanted to stop by and check out your site. Not sure if saying that Tourettes is fascinating is PC…but it is to me. I have known a couple pleople with Tourettes, but they had very few tics. Then I saw the movie a couple years ago called "Front of the Class" and it made me want to learn more. I am looking forward to reading your book…and I wish you the best of luck! I will be a loyal fan/reader for many days to come.
