The Kids are OK
This evening a colleague and I took a group of six young people we work with to an event at the local Town Hall. As we walked there I warned them that other adults or young people who didn’t know me might look at me or laugh because of the noises I make. The group responded with strong support. One young man said, “I don’t even notice any more.” The others started to describe all the things they would do or say if someone laughed at me. There were mainly in line with the Thump-A-Youth Man approach. However, they swiftly moved on to “We’ll just explain and show them it’s OK by being normal about it.” I was impressed by their clarity.
