The organisation I work for runs three different projects. This means I’ve got lots of keys. I regularly need to show people – important funders or partners for example – around the projects, and that means a lot of unlocking and locking of doors.

The keys all look similar, many of the padlocks are heavy, and my tics make it hard for me to control my hands and arms. The combination of all this can make opening doors embarrassing, time-consuming and dangerous.

Yesterday I colour-coded my keys and put them into separate padded pouches. Today the new system faced its first test as I showed a group around the sites, and it made things run much more smoothly.

The most ridiculous thing is that it’s taken me six months in the job to sort this out. It’s reminded me how a little time spent organising something properly can make a huge difference to my day.
