As well as being a part-time superhero and working one day a week for Touretteshero, for four days a week I work as a project coordinator for a children’s organisation in London. My role covers three main areas:

1) Fundraising
2) Supporting volunteers
3) Developing new projects and services

I’ve worked there for four years and in that time I’ve:

1) Secured over half a million pounds in funding for the organisation
2) Supported over three hundred regular volunteers
3) Helped triple the services the organisation provides

I’m telling you this now not because I want to brag but to give you a sense of the work I do and because yet another Conservative minister has suggested that some disabled people are “not worth” the minimum wage.…

On Friday afternoon I sat in our sunny playground and cried. My colleagues were all busy doing their work in the office, but I couldn’t do mine – I was stuck on the phone to the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), pleading with them to pay money owed to my employer for the cost of my support at work.…

So today Scotland’s deciding whether to remain part of the United Kingdom or to become an independent country. I’m not about to wade into the political debate about the referendum myself, but unsurprisingly my tics are quite happy to:

“Run while you can Scotland.”…

Last July I wrote a long letter to Nick Gorse, Dean of Camberwell College of Art, about how awful wheelchair access is at their main site. After a long wait I got a fairly disappointing reply, which said, basically, that because the building is so old not much can be done.…

Yesterday 50,000 people marched through central London carrying a peaceful but powerful message to the doors of the Houses of Parliament. Poppy and I were among them.

We were there with tens of thousands of other people in the shadow of this iconic building and listened as campaigners gave compelling speeches about this Government’s driving ideology and the impact of their savage austerity.…

When I was eight I was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia, I was ticcing a bit then too, but they were mild, and it wasn’t until they intensified in my early twenties that I was diagnosed with Tourettes. I was a chaotic child but I was lucky to be (mostly) well supported throughout my education.…

This morning Will and I went to the RNIB’s talking book studios to take part in an edition of Disability Now’s podcast. In preparation I listened to a load of previous editions and thought they were fascinating and wide-ranging. You can find the archive of them here.…

Exactly a week ago our Kickstarter Campaign came to a triumphant end. We’d successfully raised all the money we needed to take our show, Backstage In Biscuit Land, to the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

Everyone who backed us was able to choose rewards, and these will be sent out later in the year.…

There are still ten days to go until the end of our Kickstarter appeal, and it’s great that we’ve already exceeded our target – it means we’ll definitely be able to take Backstage in Biscuit Land to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.…
