Year of the Biscuit
The final post of any year feels like a big deal. But at the end of such a busy year this one feels particularly significant.

It’s New Year’s resolutions time again, when we all promise ourselves we’ll get fit and lose weight after the excesses of Christmas, or even take on the really big challenges of drinking less or giving up smoking. But how many of our resolutions will we actually stick to beyond the first couple of weeks in January?…
Each day since the beginning of December I’ve posted a Christmas related tic as my festive outburst. In the last few weeks I’ve shared seasonal tips, poems and messages – all building up to today!
This morning I’ve just got one message for you – Happy Christmas!…
The Christmas season’s full of traditions and activities that we can only bear once a year. Not least of these is the Christmas Pantomime, where washed-up celebrities put on tights and encourage mobs of children to shout abuse at them.
Having published my first book just a couple of months ago, I thought ‘Why stop there?’…
Brian’s been around for a while now. I talk about him so often it’s starting to feel like he’s an absent housemate. Later this month I’m planning a Secret Santa for him at the castle – I’ll have some friends over, all bearing gifts for Brian.…

This can cause trouble when I’m genuinely trying to make a list of things at work or to give directions to someone, but for me, it’s one of the most hilarious and unexpected features of having Tourettes.…
I had a wobble today. Not just the physical type (that’s a very regular occurrence) but a more noteworthy emotional wobble. In the last few days I’ve written quite dispassionately about my year of ‘ticcing fits’. I’ve got used to suddenly having my day interrupted by my flailing limbs and loss of speech, and as I described yesterday, it’s become much easier to manage all this.…
I’m writing this in a slightly unusual location – sitting on a train. Leftwing Idiot and I have spent the day hanging out with friends in Nottingham. Now, as we speed back to London through the dark countryside, it seems like a good time to reflect on our day.…
It’s my fitiversary. Exactly a year ago today I woke up having a ‘ticcing fit’, and I’ve had at least two a day ever since. As I got dressed this morning I reached for a pair of tracksuit bottoms, but immediately decided against them because they didn’t seem suitable attire for a fitiversary.…
